New York Seminar Focuses On Government And Public Policy Issues

On Wednesday, October 6, the Greater New York Chapter of the ACC will present How to Deal Successfully with Government and Affect Public Policy in Today's Legal and Business Environment.

It will be held at the Cornell Club at 6 East 44th Street in New York City from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

This program will examine how a bill becomes law in New York State and the role of lobbyists at each stage of the legislative process. The faculty will review New York's Lobbying Act and explain to participants how to understand what the definition of a lobbyist is under the act.

The focus will be on the restrictions placed on lobbyists and corporations and the unique issues confronting corporations in dealing with small and medium-sized municipalities.

Participants will also be given an overview of the Citizens United case and what it means for fundraising and corporate participation in politics. A panel will discuss the most effective ways to deal with local, state and federal governments to affect public policy in today's legal and business environment.

The speakers are Harold Ickes, Thomas Harnett, Richard Winsten, A. Thomas Levin, and Lois Schlissel of Meyer, Souzzi, English & Klein, P.C.; and Jeffrey Green, former general counsel for the Port Authority for New York and New Jersey.
