On Monday, August 22, the New York City Bar will host a program featuring Ethics in the Electronic Age: Be Careful when using that Cell phone, Blackberry, Blog, or Social Network.
The morning program will run from 9:00 a.m. until noon at the New York City Bar Association, 42 West 44th Street in New York City.
Using the latest technology to communicate with clients, the court and the public is often a necessary part of a lawyer's job. But incorrect use of these tools can lead to disaster, particularly when it involves the inadvertent disclosure of a client's confidential information. The stakes are even higher when information created, distributed or stored electronically is subject to discovery. This program will address common mistakes that lawyers make with cell phones, speaker phones, voicemail, email and wireless devices. The faculty will use illustrations from a wide variety of matters, including commercial, criminal and family law cases; the program will provide a basic grounding in electronic discovery and address common errors that lawyers make in handling matters involving electronically stored information. Finally, participants will hear about the latest generation of Internet communications and social networking that carry even further risks along with their benefits.
