NC Bar Seminar Will OfferAdvice On Witness Preparation

The North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA) has scheduled a CLE seminar titled The Three P's of Witness Preparation.

The program will take place on Thursday, August 16 at the NC Bar Center, 8000 Weston Parkway, Cary, NC, and on Friday, August 17 at the Holiday Inn Center City, 230 North College Street, Charlotte, NC. Sessions run from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

The program examines: Process, including the playing field, trial participants identified, the rules of witness conduct, explaining the case to the witness, explaining the parts of the trial to the witness, discovery, familiarizing witnesses with the courtroom, direct testimony, and cross-examination; Preparation, including attorney's responsibility to the witness, what a witness is and what a witness isn't, bill of rights for the witness, anticipating problems with witnesses, building a credible witness, strategy considerations and witness preparation, defensive behaviors, and preparing the types of witnesses, and Performance, including the importance of appearance and demeanor, moving about the courtroom, voice control, effective use of gestures, eye contact, clothing and accessories, and checklist of things to do on the day of testimony.
