NAWL Mid-Year Meeting In Miami

The National Organization of Women Lawyers will hold its mid-year meeting on Wednesday and Thursday, February 16 and 17. The conference will be located at the Epic Hotel, 270 Biscayne Boulevard in Miami, Florida.

On Wednesday the conference kicks off with a poolside networking reception from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. On Thursday the program runs from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. followed by a reception until 7:00 p.m.

The conference will open with an address by Lisa M. Passante, corporate counsel for E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company and NAWL executive board and chair of the mid-year meeting.

The first session will be a panel discussion on leadership in the courtroom and beyond. The panel will be moderated by the Honorable Peggy A. Quince of the Florida Supreme Court, and panelists include the Honorable Cecilia M. Altonga, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida; the Honorable Ellen Leesfield, Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida; and the Honorable Barbara Lago, Florida Third District Court of Appeal.

The afternoon begins with a program titled Leading for Good: Inspiration from Outside the Box, moderated by Jane Mallor McBride, general counsel, Optimus Legal. The panel will discuss how women define success in ways other than dollars and cents. Participants will hear what defines accomplishment outside of the law firm and corporate world and examine ways to be inspired to use their own talents to make a difference.

Panelists include Col. Lettie J. Bien, president, Martial Venue, Inc.; Cheryl Little, executive director and founder, Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center; and Dean Patricia D. White, University of Miami School of Law.
