Missouri Bar Offers Advanced ADR Seminar

The Missouri Bar Association's dispute resolution committee is sponsoring a seminar on Advanced ADR.The event will be held on Friday, September 10, at the Stoney Creek Inn & Conference Center, 2601 S. Providence Road in Columbia, Missouri and will run from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

The conference will examine the history of lawyers as problem solvers and how settlement is transforming the practice of law. The opening segment will be led by Professor Julie MacFarlane of the University of Windsor, who will discuss the "new lawyer" and the increasing use of private court-based alternative dispute resolution and how this is changing the face of advocacy.

Other sessions focus on ethics issues such as ethical issues in negotiation and mediation and look at collaborative and cooperative law. A luncheon program will feature the Honorable Jay A. Daugherty, who will give an update on the Supreme Court ADR Commission along with various members of the commission.

Other speakers and panelists include Yvonne M. Homeyer, Law Office of Yvonne M. Homeyer; John Lande, University of Missouri School of Law; and C. J. Larkin, Washington University School of Law.
