Michigan Bar Looks at Energy Issues

The State Bar of Michigan presents the 2011 "Groundbreakers" Breakfast Roundtable titled Energy is Here to Stay. The event will be held on Thursday, January 13, at the Townsend Hotel, 100 Townsend Street in Birmingham, Michigan. The program starts at 7:30 a.m. and adjourns at 9:30 a.m.

Pushing for energy independence, reduction of greenhouse gases and lower energy prices, federal and state policymakers have been busy in the energy field. These changes make it clear - energy is here to stay. From encouraging competition in the market to incentivizing the development of renewable energy, recent policy decisions have affected lawyers practicing in almost every field. The program will explore current issues in the energy field that touch upon real estate law. The keynote speaker is Christine Mason Soneral, vice president and general counsel of Utility Operations, ITC Holdings Corp. After the presentation there will be a series of roundtable discussions covering energy-related issues such as LEED certification; site acquisition; local state and federal development incentives; oil and gas leases; power purchase agreements; federal and state policy updates; zoning issues; and condemnation.
