McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC’s Devin J. Chwastyk will describe how young attorneys can find ways to build and grow a practice in privacy and data security in an upcoming Jenkins Law Library continuing legal education course on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021.
As chair of McNees’ Privacy and Data Security Group, Chwastyk is uniquely positioned to offer guidance on techniques to break into the field and develop a sustained practice in this area.
“While privacy and data security law are no longer niche practice areas, the work is still specialized,” Chwastyk said. “This is an opportunity for practicing lawyers to learn about ways to crossover from their existing practice areas into these cases at the cusp of technical innovation and the law.”
Since 2005 when he represented merchants and banking institutions in some of the first successful data breach lawsuits in U.S. federal court, the focus of Chwastyk’s practice has been cybersecurity issues. He represented dozens of entities victimized by cyberattacks and helped those clients limit their liability and meet their notification obligations.
Chwastyk additionally advises companies on emerging and existing privacy laws at all levels of government and assists those clients in building their internal privacy compliance programs. He earned two Certified Information Privacy Professional designations (CIPP/US and CIPP/Europe) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
