Richmond tax and employee benefits associate Emily Winbigler will join firm client Markel Corp., a holding company for insurance, reinsurance and investment operations, on April 20.
Winbigler will be tax counsel for the Richmond-based corporation’s tax accounting department, advising on tax matters related to operations, acquisitions and joint ventures.
“Emily has been a valuable member of our department throughout her tenure at McGuireWoods,” said Atlanta partner Gerald Thomas, who chairs McGuireWoods’ Tax & Employee Benefits Department. “She is an extraordinary lawyer and person, and will be successful at Markel. We look forward to continuing to work with Emily as our client.”
Since joining McGuireWoods in September 2016, Winbigler has handled federal and state tax matters, focusing on renewable energy investment, energy tax credits and incentives, financing transactions, and corporate and partnership tax planning. She has advised clients in new market tax credit leverage fund transactions, state and local tax compliance matters, and administrative audit appeals with state taxation agencies. She also counseled real estate investment trusts and publicly traded companies in capital market transactions.
“I cannot thank my McGuireWoods mentors enough,” Winbigler said. “Through them, I gained valuable experience working on complex matters and interfacing directly with clients. I look forward to continuing to work with McGuireWoods lawyers in my new role.”
