McGuireWoods Washington, D.C., associate Amy Kaplan will join the U.S. Department of Justice as a trial attorney in the Consumer Protection Branch.
In her new role, Kaplan will prosecute civil and criminal actions on behalf of the United States in matters involving complex consumer fraud, deceptive trade practices, and violations of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, among others.
Kaplan joined McGuireWoods’ Antitrust, Trade & Commercial Litigation Department in March 2017. She focused her practice on white collar defense and government investigations and she has represented major corporations in criminal and civil investigations by U.S. regulatory authorities, including the Department of Justice Antitrust Division, Securities and Exchange Commission, and Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, among others. She also represented corporations in multijurisdictional investigations into antitrust violations, tax evasion and money laundering. Kaplan maintains a pro bono practice and has represented individuals in civil and criminal trials as well as a nonprofit organization in an employment dispute.
“At McGuireWoods, I learned from the highest-caliber attorneys in my field, and found a community uniquely invested in my professional and personal growth,” Kaplan said. “I look forward to staying in touch with the McGuireWoods community.”
“Amy has been a valuable member of our department for the past three years and she will be missed,” said Amy Manning, chair of McGuireWoods’ Antitrust, Trade & Commercial Litigation Department. “She has shown terrific work ethic and her command of complex matters will serve her well at the DOJ.”
