Debo Adesina has joined McGuireWoods’ private equity industry team as senior counsel in Dallas, bringing a broad range of experience providing strategic guidance to private equity clients as a deal lawyer and adviser.
Adesina advises private equity funds and their portfolio companies on mergers and acquisitions, divestitures and restructurings, as well as on corporate governance issues. He counsels domestic and international clients in industries such as energy and infrastructure, consumer products, manufacturing, technology, media and telecommunications, and healthcare.
Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Adesina was a corporate lawyer at DLA Piper and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. From 2014 to 2016, he was a vice president in the financial advisory services group at Houlihan Lokey, where he assisted private equity and corporate clients in strategic transactions. Adesina also previously served as counsel to a startup energy and infrastructure investment fund.
A certified public accountant, Adesina received his bachelor’s degree at Purdue University and worked at Big Four accounting firms and a public company before earning his law degree at the University of Virginia School of Law.
“Debo is a highly respected deal adviser who has a client’s perspective of the complex legal and business challenges facing private equity funds,” said David Whelpley, chair of the firm’s M&A, Energy and Private Equity Department.
Dallas-based partner David McLean, co-head of the firm’s private equity industry team, said, “Debo is a perfect fit for our practice. His connections in the private equity community and his investment banking background will be tremendous assets for the firm and our clients.”
“We have built a formidable middle-market private equity team in Dallas and throughout the firm, and Debo’s track record working with domestic and international clients makes us even stronger,” said Akash Sethi, managing partner of the firm’s Dallas office.
“I am impressed with the firm’s collaborative, industry-focused approach to serving its private equity clients and happy to have the opportunity to grow my practice here,” Adesina said.
