McGuireWoods Awards Minority Scholarships

McGuireWoods LLP has sponsored four law student scholarships for minority women through the Leadership Academy for Women of Color Attorneys, which held its annual conference on February 7-9, at the Ritz-Carlton in downtown Atlanta.

The Leadership Academy focused on helping women of color attorneys develop their careers and manage diversity issues in the workplace. McGuireWoods, which also sponsors an internship for minority women interested in pursuing a legal career in its Atlanta office with Spelman College, a historically black college for women in Atlanta, is contributing $12,000 for the four scholarships.

The scholarships will be presented by Curtis Mack, a partner in McGuireWoods' Atlanta office, who has been recognized as one of the "Best of the Best," of "Cutting-Edge Labor and Employment Practitioners" in Diversity & The Bar," and as one of "America's Top Black Lawyers" in Black Enterprise, and by Jacquelyn E. Stone, who chairs McGuireWoods' Recruiting Committee and is the firm-wide hiring partner.

The four recipients are students at Mercer University School of Law, Macon, GA. They include: Charise A. Morgan, who helped organize Black Law Student Association's Empowerment Dinner for high school students and minority college students interested in law school; Elise L. Jones, who participated in the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorney's Mock Interview Session; Carla Payton, who was a quarter round finalist in the Lawson Moot Court Competition, and Charlotte Redo, who was vice president and chairperson of minority orientation of Black Law Student Association.
