Texas Access to Justice Commissioner Marc Vockell, who is a litigation director at Dell, Inc., has begun a one-year term as president of the board of directors of Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas (VLS). The nonprofit organization is dedicated to helping low-income Central Texans access the civil justice system by providing volunteer attorneys who donate free legal advice and representation and by supporting and training those attorneys.
He succeeds Jeff Boyd, who was recently chosen as general counsel for Gov. Rick Perry.
Mr. Vockell has been actively involved in VLS since 1997 and has served on the board of directors since 2001. Since joining the Dell litigation team in 2004, he has volunteered countless hours at legal clinics assisting with pro bono cases. He is also executive chair of Dell's Pro Bono and Community Involvement Committee. Mr. Vockell was appointed by the State Bar of Texas in 2009 to serve as commissioner on the Texas Access to Justice Commission.
Upon being appointed, Mr. Vockell said, "I look forward to continuing my pro bono work with VLS of Central Texas as we recruit volunteer attorneys to help people with important issues, such as assisting victims of abuse with family law issues, avoiding wrongful evictions and foreclosures, preserving disability benefits, and preparing wills and guardianships. These issues have a significant and lasting impact on the lives of our clients."
