Los Angeles County Bar Honors Outstanding Corporate Counsel

On Friday, April 9, the Los Angeles County Bar will present its annual Outstanding Corporate Counsel Award to an outstanding in-house counsel who has demonstrated exceptional career achievement. This year, the award dinner will be held at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel, 506 South Grand Ave. in Los Angeles.

A reception will begin at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and the program from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The featured speaker will be Thomas M. Priselac, president and CEO of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the immediate past chairman of the American Hospital Association Board of Directors. As chairman, Mr. Priselac was closely involved in the development and advocacy of the AHA's recommended reform of the nation's healthcare system to address the challenges of expanded coverage, increasing cost effectiveness, and providing more uniformly high-quality healthcare services.

The bar's award recipient is Peter E. Braveman, senior vice president for legal affairs and general counsel of Cedars Sinai Medical Center. Mr. Braveman has served Cedars Sinai since 1987 as its chief legal officer. He is a leader in the nonprofit and healthcare bars and was named a Southern California Super Lawyer in 2005 and 2006.

In keeping with the dinner's focus on public service, an award will be presented to a corporate legal department that has made a substantial commitment to providing pro bono legal services. The NBC Universal Legal Department, where the majority of in-house counsel legal staff is engaged in a portfolio of pro bono projects, will be the recipient of this year's award. It will be accepted by Jennifer Dominitz, vice president of legal affairs for NBC Universal's West Coast TV Group and pro bono coordinator for the legal department.

Proceeds from the dinner will go towards a donation to a local law school to fund a scholarship to a deserving law student. A donation will also be made to Mr. Braveman's law school, the University of Utah College of Law.
