Los Angeles County Bar Focuses on Art Law

Join the Los Angeles County Bar as they present an Art Law Primer: Another "Fine Art" Mess We've Gotten Ourselves Into.

On Thursday, December 10, a cocktail and hors d'oeuvres reception begins at 6:30 through 7:30 p.m. The program will begin at 7:30 and end at 9:30 p.m. The reception and event are at the Marine Contemporary Art Salon, 716 Marine Street in Santa Monica.

Topics will include current controversy over copyright issues in the Obama photo, the recent attempts to terminate copyright transfers in Marvel comics now owned by Disney and rampant infringement of art work through the sale and reproduction on the Internet.

The panel will discuss art and the law including fair use issues, terminations of copyright transfers, and work-made-for-hire issues in the context of commercial and fine art.

The panelists are Robert Helfing, head of intellectual property practice group, Sedwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold; Sean Higgins, Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP;Maria Seferian, practitioner in entertainment, IP and the arts; and Greg Victoroff, partner at Rohde & Victoroff.
