Litigation Of Patent Infringement In DC Bar Seminar

On Thursday, November 6, at 6 p.m., the DC Bar Association will present a program titled How to Litigate a Patent Infringement Case. The course will be held at the D.C. Bar Conference Center, 1250 H Street, NW, in Washington, D.C. It concludes at 9:15 p.m.

Intended to provide a practical introduction to patent infringement cases litigation, the seminar will be led by Patrick Coyne and Jerry Ivey, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP.

Topics to be covered include pre-filing investigation, jurisdiction, venue, pleading issues, joinder of parties and claims, preliminary motions practice, discovery, working with experts, damages, Markman (claim construction) motions, summary judgment, pretrial and trial, post-trial motions and appeal. Attendees will also learn about claim construction, direct and indirect infringement, equivalents, validity, enforceability, counterclaims, remedies, and settlement and negotiation strategies. Trial strategies, burdens of proof and appellate litigation issues will also be discussed. Ethics issues, including conflicts of interest that may arise in the context of patent cases, will be explored through a series of hypotheticals. Both patent attorneys and trial attorneys with a general civil litigation background can expect to benefit from the course agenda.
