An important six-program series is being sponsored by the New York City Bar and chaired by David R. Marriott, Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP, in which general counsel of leading corporations discuss the current issues of greatest importance to corporate counsel.
The series will be held at the bar association, 42 West 44th Street in New York. The remaining programs in the series include the following: On Wednesday, November 9, a panel will discuss Managing the IP Problem, which will touch upon the issues of patent quality, patent trolls, possible remedies and problem jurisdictions. For each topic, the panel will highlight current best practices and will also discuss how those practices could be affected by the passage of the Patent Reform Act. Panelists will include the following general counsel: Randal S. Milch, Verizon Communications Inc.; Jerome D. Okarma, Johnson Controls, Inc.; and R. Scott Meece, Bayer HealthCare LLC.
On Friday, November 18, a panel will discuss Navigating a Corporate Crisis: they will explore the risks and opportunities that accompany a major corporate event and describe the various strategic decisions that management must confront when faced with such an event, including the internal controls and procedures that may be put in place prior to a crisis. Panelists will include the following general counsel: Susan L. Blount, Prudential Financial Inc.; James R. Moore, Huntsman Corporation; Amy Fliegelman Olli, CA Technologies; and Deirdre Stanley, Thomson Reuters. On Thursday, December 8, a panel will discuss Advising the Board & Senior Management and cover typical situations that many business leaders will confront. Panelists will include the following general counsel: Jack Balagia, Exxon Mobil Corporation; Daniel J. Goldstein, Pitney Bowes Inc., Timothy J. Mayopoulos, Fannie Mae; and Jeffrey S. Sherman, Becton Dickinson.
