Lawyers Alliance Offers Employment Law Webinar Series

The Lawyers Alliance for New York will examine employment law in a three-part webinar series. The first program of the series, Legal Healthy Hiring: Obtaining and Verifying Information, will be held on Tuesday, November 9, from noon until 1:00 p.m. Participants will learn what questions should and should not be asked during the hiring process, what types of pre-employment testing are legal, and how to legally conduct background checks. Practitioners will learn what to do with applicant information and how to comply with New York State's law requiring notice of pay rate and payday for new hires.

The second of the series is being held on Tuesday, November 16, from noon until 1:00 p.m. In Holiday Observances: Avoiding Legal Hangovers, participants will learn about the legal risks hidden in holiday parties, decorations, gifting and more, from religious accommodation to sexual harassment to personal injury.

The third and final program, Overtime Pay: Calculating Working Time and Regular Rate of Pay, is being held on Tuesday, November 30, from noon until 1:00 p.m.Practitioners will learn that non-exempt employees must be paid at "time and a half" after 40 hours, but that's only the beginning of payment issues. The faculty will examine the complex issues that arise in pay calculations and advise how to avoid common mistakes.
