Lawyers Alliance For New York Launches Community Arts Initiative

Lawyers Alliance for New York has launched a Community Arts initiative to devote more of its resources to legal and educational services to organizations whose arts programs serve low-income New Yorkers. Nonprofit organizations that bring visual, musical, cultural and performing arts to low-income communities are strengthening these communities by promoting academic achievement, providing therapeutic value, stimulating civic engagement, building community identity and helping to drive economic development.

“Working with community arts organizations fits squarely within our mission of providing pro bono legal services to nonprofit organizations that improve the quality of life in New York City neighborhoods,” says Judith Moldover, the Lawyers Alliance senior staff attorney spearheading the new Community Arts project. “Vibrant arts and cultural activities make neighborhoods dynamic and healthier places to live and work.”

In addition to business and transactional legal assistance, Lawyers Alliance offers legal services tailored specifically to nonprofit Community Arts organizations, including help handling licensing agreements, securing copyright protection, addressing employment law, and independent contractor and volunteer management issues.
