LA County Bar Plans Annual Labor And Employment Law Symposium

The Los Angeles County Bar Association has planned its Annual Labor and Employment Law Symposium. The full-day event will run from 8:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Wilshire Grand Hotel, 930 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, on Thursday, March 31.

Using a panel discussion format, the symposium will explore cutting-edge labor and employment law issues of critical importance to attorneys, judges, neutrals, government practitioners, union representatives, in-house counsel, and human resource professionals.

Each discussion covers opposing viewpoints, interpretations and strategies, and will encourage audience participation. Highlights will include The Year in Review, a discussion about significant court decisions and legislative activity from management and labor's point of view; practical tips for discovery and settlement negotiations in class actions; anda trio of leading practitioners from the plaintiff's, defense, and in-house bar providing a broad perspective about advanced issues in conducting and litigating workplace investigations.

The luncheon keynote speaker, Dennis A. Davis, a celebrated industrial psychologist and director of Client Training, Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, will cover bullying and workplace violence.

Attendees will have four breakout sessions to choose from after lunch, and the day will end with a cocktail reception hosted by JAMS.

Among the speakers are Janel R. Ablon, Littler Mendelson APC; Ann K. Calfas, Fox Entertainment Group; Maria E. Durazo, executive secretary, treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor; and Debra L. Fischer, Bingham McCutchen LLP.
