LA Bar Explores Hot IP Issues

The Intellectual Property Section of the LA Bar has scheduled a three-day conference titled 34th Annual Intellectual Property Institute: IP in Vogue for Thursday through Saturday, November 12 to 14, at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point.

The bar welcomes all who are interested in intellectual property, not just lawyers, to the conference. Registration includes networking opportunities, two keynote addresses with Robin Smith, general counsel of LEGO Systems, Inc. and Chris Kelly, chief privacy officer and global public policy director or Facebook, Inc., CLE sessions with leaders at the forefront of IP, including in-house counsel, and a lawyer fashion show (hint: wear the signature colors of the 2009 IP Institute, blue and white.) The IP Vanguard Awards, which will be presented on Friday night, are new this year.

Among the topics that will be discussed are Hidden Assets: Intellectual Property Rights in Designs moderated by Rebecca Edelson, partner, Steptoe & Johnson LLP; Copyright Year in Review with David Nimmer, professor from practice, UCLA Law School and Irell & Manella LLP.;It Takes a Thief: War Stories from the Anti-Counterfeiting Trenches with moderator Deborah Greaves, secretaryand general counsel, True Religion Brand Jeans; and Obama and IP, moderated by Q. Todd Dickinson, executive director of AIPLA.
