Barnes & Thornburg announced today that Kevin Stanek has rejoined the firm’s Government Services and Finance Department in Columbus. Most recently, Stanek was Chief Legal Counsel for the Ohio House of Representatives, providing legal analysis of legislation, overseeing ethics compliance and financial disclosure filings, and serving as a top adviser to the Speaker of the House.
An attorney with Barnes & Thornburg for nearly five years, from 2018-2023, Stanek represents clients in policy matters and governmental affairs before the Ohio General Assembly, executive agencies, and state boards and commissions. He leverages his understanding of the policies, procedures, and personalities that drive government decision-making to create enduring solutions for clients. He also represents clients on public finance deals, local economic development, white collar investigations and defense, and corporate governance and transactions.
“Having Kevin rejoin our Ohio team is a tremendous asset to our Governmental Services and Finance Department,” said Richard J. Hall, chair of the firm’s Government Services and Finance Department. “His hands-on experience navigating complex governmental and regulatory issues, strategic insight, and keen ability to provide practical solutions will be invaluable to our clients.”
Stanek’s prior government experience also includes serving as assistant chief counsel and assistant director of policy for asset management for former Ohio Gov. John R. Kasich and associate general counsel to the Ohio Office of Budget and Management.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kevin back to Barnes & Thornburg,” said William A. Nolan, managing partner of the firm’s Columbus office. “Kevin’s extensive experience in both the executive and legislative branches of Ohio’s government—and his prior success at our firm—distinctly positions him to help our clients navigate the complexities of state and local government.”
Stanek earned his J.D. from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and his B.A., cum laude, from Ohio State University.
