Jeffrey G. Benz, Esq., Appointed as Arbitrator for CAS’ Ad Hoc Division for Olympic Winter Games

JAMS is pleased to congratulate Jeffrey G. Benz, Esq., FCIArb, CEDS, on his recent arbitration appointment to the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) Ad Hoc Division to assist with the resolution of any legal disputes that arise immediately before and during the Olympic Winter Games 2022 in Beijing. Mr. Benz is the only arbitrator from the United States and will be present in Beijing throughout the Olympic Games.

Mr. Benz joined JAMS in 2016 as a mediator, arbitrator and special master after a career serving on numerous specialty ADR panels for international, sports, technology and entertainment claims. His sports and entertainment background includes five years as general counsel of the U.S. Olympic Committee. He has arbitrated more than 400 doping and sports discipline and qualification claims, including in USADA v. Bruyneel, which was the only arbitrated case in relation to Lance Armstrong.

Among his clients, Mr. Benz is lauded for his creativity and passion for sports law. He draws from his background as a former competitive athlete to bring high energy and unwavering persistence to each case that he oversees. He is admitted as a barrister in England and Wales and as a lawyer in California, Colorado, Hawaii and New York.
