Morrison & Foerster is pleased to announce that Jason Shafer has joined us as Counsel in our Financial Services Group. The Financial Services Group covers all aspects of regulatory, transactional, and enforcement matters for U.S. and foreign banking organizations and nonbanks that provide financial services.
Jason joins us from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, where he was Senior Counsel in the Legal Division. While at the Federal Reserve Board, Jason reviewed complex proposals by U.S. and foreign banking organizations to engage in mergers and acquisitions, conduct banking and non-banking activities, and offer new products. In addition, Jason advised principals and senior staff on key regulatory areas, including liquidity regulations, swap margin requirements, and enhanced prudential standards.
Jason began his legal career at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, where he worked on several rulemaking teams to implement complex derivatives regulations developed pursuant to the Dodd-Frank Act. Jason also worked at the American Bankers Association, leading various industry advocacy initiatives with respect to bank participation in the derivatives markets and advising the industry on the regulation of new activities and financial products.
Jason's experience in bank and derivatives regulation amplifies our strong financial services practice. His practice will focus on advising U.S. and foreign banking organizations and other financial institutions on transactional, regulatory reform, supervisory, enforcement, and governance matters. In addition, his experience will complement and enhance the firm’s existing fintech practice, as he will advise U.S. and foreign banking organizations and fintech companies on strategic partnerships and investments.
