In a move that further strengthens its Chambers-ranked premier global compensation, benefits, and ERISA practice, Paul Hastings LLP announced today that executive compensation lawyer Jason Ertel has joined the firm as a partner in New York.
Ertel has more than 17 years of experience counseling public and private companies, private equity sponsors, management teams, and corporate boards on complex executive compensation, employee benefits, and corporate governance issues.
“As we continue to strengthen our corporate platform, Jason’s deep and diverse experience in matters across the executive compensation spectrum will be invaluable to clients needing top-tier, full-service compensation, ERISA, and benefits advice,” said firm Chair Frank Lopez. “Jason’s practice is also highly synergistic with our other strong corporate offerings, including private equity, M&A, capital markets, funds, finance, and restructuring.”
Ertel’s practice focuses on the compensation, employee benefits, and ERISA aspects of mergers and acquisitions, employment negotiations, and compensation plan structuring. He also regularly advises on the deferred compensation regulations under Sections 409A and 457A of the Internal Revenue Code, the “golden parachute” rules under Section 280G of the Internal Revenue Code, and SEC disclosure requirements relating to executive compensation matters.
“The Paul Hastings momentum has been exciting to watch and continues to generate opportunities for me to add value to the firm’s clients while also growing my own practice,” said Ertel. “I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the firm’s incredible global platform and look forward to providing its roster of top-flight clients with the key executive compensation and employee benefits advice they need.”
Ertel joins from Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP and previously practiced at Paul, Weiss.
