On Wednesday and Thursday, April 14 and 15, the IP Counsel Café and ACC are teaming up to present the Future of IP and Entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley and Beyond.
The two-day seminar will be held at the Crowne Plaza Cabana Hotel, 4290 El Camino Real in Palo Alto. On Wednesday it will run from 9 a.m. to 5:40 p.m., followed by a cocktail reception, and on Thursday it will run from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
The conference begins with a keynote address by Suzanne T. Michel, deputy director, Office of Policy Planning, the Federal Trade Commission, titled Evolving IP Marketplace. Ms. Michel heads the FTC's project on the Evolving IP Marketplace. Over the past year, the FTC completed a series of hearings exploring how markets for technology and patents operate, how they can promote or burden innovation, and how they are affected by patent law doctrines. Ms. Michel's address will reveal the lessons learned from these hearings.
Among the other topics are Creative Budget Control: How to Structure Your Fee Arrangements; a breakfast on Thursday and WIPLA Roundtable - The IP Counsel's Career Path; Reexaminations under the New Administration; and concurrent tracks on Thursday morning, Asia IP Strategy: Limits to Patent Protection, Exploring the Alternatives and Building Value: How to Position Your Legal Department as a Strategic Business Partner Within Your Organization. Other speakers include Mark Howitson, Facebook; Michelle Lee, Google; and B.J. Watrous, Hewlett-Packard.
