Illinois State Bar Seminar Focuses On Consumer Collections

The Illinois State Bar Association is offering a full-day conference looking at Hot Topics in Consumer Collections. The event is on Monday, October 17 at the ISBA Regional Office at 20 Clark Street in Chicago. It begins at 8:55 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m.

Participants will have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of the consumer collections arena. Topics include the challenges of small claims collections; representing debt buyers; the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act; protecting creditor clients in bankruptcy; case law update; navigating the consumer foreclosure case; and the Illinois Collection Agency Act. A discussion on the various ethical and professional considerations that arise in consumer debt cases will be provided.

The day will begin with a welcome by the moderator, Cindy M. Johnson of Johnson Legal Group. Other speakers are Christopher R. DiPlacido, Resurgence Financial, LLC; Paul B. Fichter, Credit Union 1; and Robert G. Markoff, Markoff & Kransy, P.C..
