Illinois CLE Discusses Recent Media Events And Legal Professionalism

Illinois CLE presents a topical CLE event titled Tales from the Media II: Blagojevich, Interrogation Memos & More. The program is scheduled for Thursday, January 21, at the UBS Tower & Conference Center, One North Wacker Drive, Chicago. It will begin at 8:30 a.m. and adjourn at 12:45 p.m.

This program will offer a lively discussion of current media scandals and their affect on the public perception of legal professionalism.

The featured speaker is Mary K. Foster, adjunct professor of legal ethics, Northwestern University School of Law. Ms. Foster will share her 15 years of experience investigating and prosecuting lawyers for professional misconduct and talk about recent highly publicized events.

Topics will include the Blagojevich "pay-to-play" scandal, ethical issues facing lawyers who work for the government, such as Obama's cabinet appointments, and failure to pay taxes. Other hot issues will focus on the torture memos and the consequences of following orders, the University of Illinois clout scandal, and other noteworthy media reports of misconduct, including recent ARDC complaints and reports of discipline involving allegations of mishandling funds, fraud and criminal conduct.
