JAMS announces the addition of Hon. Sherry Klein Heitler (Ret.) to its panel. Justice Heitler joins JAMS after 28 years on the bench serving New York State with excellence.
During her career, in recognition of her work ethic and ability, four chief administrative judges appointed Justice Heitler to positions with diverse responsibilities. She served as chief of policy and planning for the New York State Unified Court System. Prior to this, she served as the administrative judge for civil matters in New York County and as an associate justice of the Appellate Term of the New York State Supreme Court, First Department.
Based in the New York Resolution Center, Justice Heitler will serve as an arbitrator, mediator, special master/referee and neutral evaluator, and handle family, personal injury and torts, professional liability, employment, product liability, construction defect, real estate and real property, and insurance disputes. She is available to conduct sessions in person (adhering to reopening guidelines), as well as virtually for attorneys and their clients across the country.
During her lengthy terms on the bench, Justice Heitler handled thousands of cases in multiple areas of the law. Her career has spanned the full breadth of matrimonial, administrative, appellate, criminal and civil matters involving asbestos mass torts, personal injury, commercial and residential landlord/tenant, business/commercial and insurance coverage disputes, as well as special proceedings. Her expansive experience also includes medical malpractice, dental malpractice, legal malpractice, property damage, sexual harassment and contract claims. Justice Heitler has been a leader in civic and community organizations and associations, and she frequently chairs and lectures for professional programs.
Justice Heitler received her B.A. from Hunter College of the City of New York, her M.A. from New York University and her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.
