JAMS announces the addition of Hon. Marcy Friedman (Ret.) to its panel. Justice Friedman joins JAMS after having served as a judge in New York state courts for nearly 30 years. Since 2000, she has presided in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, New York County, where she was appointed to the court’s Center for Complex Litigation.
Based in the New York Resolution Center, Justice Friedman will serve as an arbitrator, mediator and special master/referee, handling disputes in banking, business and commercial, employment, entertainment, financial markets, government and public agency, insurance, real property and securities matters.
In 2012, Justice Friedman was appointed to the Commercial Division and was designated to hear all residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) cases filed after 2013. In this assignment, she heard dozens of RMBS fraud, breach of contract and investor actions against securitizers and mortgage originators, as well as cases seeking judicial approval of settlements of these actions and judicial instructions as to the distribution of settlement payments to various classes of investors.
Justice Friedman received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Smith College, attended St. Anne’s College, Oxford University and earned her J.D., cum laude, from University of Pennsylvania School of Law.
