JAMS shares that Hon. Elizabeth A. White (Ret.) has been installed as the 42nd president of the National Association of Women Judges (NAWJ).
Founded in 1979, the NAWJ aims to protect the rights of individuals under the rule of law through strong, committed and diverse judicial leadership; fairness and quality in the courts; and equal access to justice. In her role, Judge White will further the mission of fostering an environment of inclusion and transparency. Her theme for the year will be “Effecting Change: Drawing From the Past and Embracing the Future.”
During her presidency, Judge White pledges to continue to push the needle within the legal industry to improve the fairness of and access to the judicial system for diverse populations. She believes that change can be effected at the local, state, national and international levels by partnering with organizations, committees and other entities that share a commitment to increasing access to justice and combating the inequities that impact women, diverse people and people of limited means.
Judge White joined JAMS in 2020 after serving for 23 years as a judge in the Los Angeles Superior Court. She was assigned to serve as a justice pro tem of the California Court of Appeal, Second District, in 2004 and again in 2020. At JAMS, Judge White serves as an arbitrator and mediator, handling business and commercial, civil rights, employment, entertainment and sports, insurance, personal injury and torts, professional liability, real property and construction disputes.
