Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP, the world’s undisputed leader in business litigation, announced today that Hisaya Kimura has joined the firm as a partner in the firm’s Tokyo office. Kimura brings a wealth of experience in resolving complex disputes between large corporations as well as an understanding of Japanese culture to a diverse portfolio of clients both in Japan and globally.
“We are delighted that Kimura-sensei is joining Quinn Emanuel; his extensive experience in complex business litigation will significantly enhance our ability to serve clients both in Japan and internationally," said Ryan Goldstein, Managing Partner of the firm’s Tokyo office. "We are confident that his expertise will be a tremendous asset to our team."
Like all partners in Quinn Emanuel’s Tokyo office, Kimura is experienced in U.S. litigation. He began his legal career under the mentorship of the late Ekizo Fujibayashi, the only lawyer in Japan to have served as Chief Justice of the Japan Supreme Court. After obtaining his LL.M. from Harvard Law School, Kimura was admitted to the New York State Bar and later worked for New York firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, focusing on large international disputes for Japanese companies.
Kimura returned to Japan with Nagashima & Ohno (now Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu) as an associate and later became a partner. His expertise centered around international disputes, including foreign litigation, international arbitration, mediation, and negotiations for Japanese companies.
“Kimura-sensei’s distinguished career and impressive track record make him a valuable addition to the firm,” said John B. Quinn, Chairman and Founding Partner of Quinn Emanuel. “We look forward to leveraging his skills and experience to further enhance Quinn Emanuel’s exceptional service to our clients.”
Kimura has represented both Japanese and foreign companies in some of Japan's largest and most significant disputes. His extensive experience spans a variety of matters, such as business alliance conflicts, finance and securities, competition, environmental issues, IT, labor, product liability, and intellectual property. Kimura will bring that expertise to Quinn Emanuel, advising Japanese companies and other clients.
“I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with some of the most esteemed legal professionals both in Japan and in the United States. These invaluable experiences have provided me with a unique expertise in handling complex international disputes,” Kimura said. “I am proud to continue my journey with Quinn Emanuel and continue to represent and support our clients in some of the most significant litigations in the world."
