Georgetown Law Plans Corporate Counsel Institute In London

Georgetown Law, building on the success of the Annual Corporate Counsel Institute, has decided to take the program to Europe. The first Corporate Counsel Institute-Europe will, like the U.S. program, include key government officials, leading attorneys, academics, jurists and corporate counsel from major and international corporations as speakers and as participants.

The institute will be held at the Langham Hotel, 1C Portland Place, Regent Street, London. It will run from 9 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday.

The faculty will discuss and debate new case law, regulatory trends, evolving relationships between companies and the law firms representing them, and the latest best practices in compliance and corporate governance. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of all faculty members and then interact with faculty at a cocktail reception on Thursday.

The institute will open with the keynote speaker Mario Monti, president of Bocconi University and former EU Competition Commissioner. Lunch and Remarks on Thursday, Following the Finance Beat: A journalist's Perspective will feature Gillian Tett, assistant editor, Global Financial Markets, the Financial Times. After lunch, a general counsel roundtable - a Dialogue between General Counsel & Law Firm Leaders on Best Practices to Address Common Challenges - has been scheduled, with Louis J. Briskman of CBS Corporation, John Davidson of SABMiller plc and Pierre Todorov, Lovells LLP and former general counsel of Accor. A Corporate Governance Update and Global Competition & Antitrust discussion will follow.

On Friday, sessions include Creating & Implementing Successful Compliance Programs, Regulation of Financial Markets & Services, and the Closing General Counsel Roundtable: What's Top of Mind? Friday's speakers include Frederick J. Krebs, president, ACC; Edward J. Nalbantian, partner & co-chair, Banking & Finance Practice, Jones Day; and Michael Thun, Cluster Compliance Officer, North West Europe, Siemens AG.
