Environmental Law Conference At Yosemite

This year, the State Bar of California's Environmental Law Conference at Yosemite is scheduled to run from Thursday, October 20 to Sunday, October 23. It features educational sessions and up to 12 hours of MCLE credits, outdoor presentations, a kid's camp and family activities, keynote speakers, and a Saturday night dinner program.

On Friday morning, keynote remarks by Ken Alex and Cliff Rechtschaffen, senior advisors to Governor Jerry Brown, will cover energy and environment matters in the Brown administration and their views on reaching the governor's renewable energy goals and his vision for California, a state with 50 million people. Other Friday morning sessions will cover such topics as the California Coastal Act; recent environmental law developments in the U.S. Supreme Court, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the California Supreme Court; strategic planning for renewable energy; CEQA, infill and smart growth; and the need for salt and nutrient regulation in surface and groundwater. On Friday afternoon, attendees may participate in offsite activities such as hikes and valley excursions.

On Saturday morning, keynote remarks will be offered by Nancy Sutley, chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, who serves as the principal environmental policy advisor to the President. Saturday's CLE sessions include green advertising, catastrophe and the development of environmental law, Superfund sites in California and a CEQA update. A Saturday night dinner program features remarks by Pete McCloskey, a true American character born and raised in California - a highly decorated war hero and one of the nation's first environmental lawyers. A Roaring Twenties Dessert Party will follow, celebrating 20 years of the Environmental Law Conference at Yosemite.

On Sunday, CLE discussions include how California is encouraging clean energy development, mitigating the loss of California's farmland, and the role of in-house counsel in environmental compliance and in resolving potential environmental litigation.
