Entergy Corporation Named Employer Of Choice By Minority Corporate Counsel Association

The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) has named the Legal Department of Entergy Corporation its 2013 Employer of Choice Award winner for the South/Southwest Region. Entergy was selected from law department applicants of corporations across the Southern/Southwest United States for demonstrating a commitment to diversity and creating and maintaining an inclusive workplace. The company will be recognized at MCCA’s Diversity Honors Gala in September.

Entergy’s Legal Department works to develop and advance diverse attorneys in and outside the company. The department seeks out women and minority attorneys who are experts in their fields to handle high-profile matters, partners outside majority firms with minority firms to diversify litigation and transactional teams, and encourages outside law firms to create plans for involving diverse attorneys in more Entergy work.

“Entergy’s status as an industry leader gives it a unique opportunity to champion diversity,” said Joseph K. West, MCCA’s president and CEO. “Entergy has seized that opportunity and set a standard for other companies to follow – making it an outstanding Employer of Choice.”

Marcus V. Brown, senior vice president and general counsel for Entergy, said, “It’s a tremendous honor for Entergy and our legal department to receive this award. It validates our overall objective of hiring and retaining the most talented people we can find, without limitations. And while this award will be presented to the legal department, it really highlights Entergy’s longstanding commitment to creating an inclusive and diverse work environment throughout the company.”

Entergy Corporation and four other regional winners will be honored at MCCA’s Diversity Honors Gala at the Lincoln Center in New York City on September 17. The evening will begin with a reception followed by the awards program in the Starr Theater and a reception in Alice Tully Hall. MCCA will also present the George B. Vashon Innovator Award to corporate legal departments and law firms or legal associations that implement outstanding diversity programs. During the reception, one individual will be honored with MCCA’s prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
