DRI Planning CLE Sessions

DRI, The Voice of the Defense Bar, is planning a potpourri of CLE sessions covering a wide range of legal issues as a highlight of the organization's upcoming Annual Meeting.

The sessions will take place between Thursday, October 11 and Saturday, October 13 at the Marriott Wardman Park, Washington, DC.

Among the sessions being offered are:

• Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to noon, How to Get and Keep Our Work - A Panel of Corporate Counsel Discuss Their Pet Peeves and Fav Raves. Topics will include the big case - multi-year work and annual fee increases, communications - what works and what doesn't, how to get on our radar screen, case budgets and estimates, and litigation guidelines. The moderator is Chrys A. Martin, Bullivant Houser Bailey PC. Speakers are James M. DiVirgilio, Travelers Property Casualty Company; Mark A. Fuchs, Louisiana-Pacific Corporation, and Sandra L. Philips, Pfizer Inc.

• Friday from 1:15 to 3 p.m., The Corporate Attorney-Client Privilege - Emerging Issues for In-House and Outside Counsel. Panelists will discuss how to establish and maintain the corporate attorney-client privilege. In addition, they will offer tips for navigatingthrough the myriad of waiver issues presented by the McNulty Memorandum and federal discovery requirements, explain the impact of proposed legislation and federal rule amendments on the corporate attorney-client privilege, and provide suggestion for corporate attorneys faced with subpoenas or motions seeking to compel privileged information. The moderator is E. Todd Presnell, Miller & Martin LLP. Speakers are James W. Cooper, Arnold & Porter LLP; Susan Hackett, ACC, and Tricia Martinez, Greyhound Lines Inc.

• Saturday from 8:30 to 10 a.m., When Good Jurors Go Bad - The Future of the Jury Trial in Light of Recent Factors Affecting Jurors' Attitudes.A nationally renowned jury consultant and trial counsel will explain the future of the jury trial system and trial tactics and strategies to minimize the client's exposure at trial.
