DRI Annual Meeting Highlights

The Annual Meeting of DRI, The Voice of the Defense Bar, will take place Wednesday-Saturday, October 10-13 at the Marriott Wardman Park, 2660 Woodley Road, NW, Washington, DC.

On Wednesday, October 10, the Young Lawyers Committee will sponsor a Bread for the City Project from 3 to 5 p.m.

First-time attendees and DRI new members will have a special reception in the Exhibit Showcase from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

A headliner scheduled for Thursday, October 11 from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. is Bob Woodward, the assistant managing editor at the Washington Post who first gained public attention for his reporting on the Watergate scandal.

The Thursday Awards Luncheon at the hotel from noon to 1:30 p.m. will feature William K. Suter, clerk of the U.S. Supreme Court.

A Diversity Reception is scheduled Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hall of Gemology at the National Museum of Natural History. Also at the Natural History Museum on Thursday, DRI is planning DRI Night at the Museum from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Food and drink will be served at the event.

On Friday, October 12, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. there will be a presentation entitled The Federal Judiciary - A View from Washington. Confirmed speakers are Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) and Chairman John Conyers (D-MI).

Also on Friday, another headliner from 11 a.m. to noon will feature Brit Hume, Washington, DC managing editor for Fox News, who will provide An Update On Washington. A Women's Networking Luncheon is scheduled at the hotel from noon to 1:15 p.m. The Young Lawyers' Committee also will sponsor a Networking Reception at the hotel from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The President's Gala is planned for Saturday evening from 6:30 to 10 p.m., highlighted by the installation ceremony for officers for the coming year including John Martin as DRI's President. The event will feature Jim Morris, comedian and political satirist. An exclusive DRI concierge will be on-site to assist with restaurant reservations (including the dine-arounds on Friday) and other visitor information.
