A seminar on international trade compliance challenges in emerging markets will be held here on September 16, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Denver Athletic Club.Leading experts from the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom will discuss priorities and strategies for complying with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, U.S. Export Controls and Economic Sanctions. The event has been structured to benefit attorneys, as well as compliance and risk professionals.
The seminar is being hosted by the National Foreign Trade Council, the Denver World Trade Center and the U.S. Commerce Department's Export Assistance Center. Paul Bergman, director of the U.S. Export Control Assistance Center here, and Karen Gerwitz, director of the Denver World Trade Center, will deliver opening remarks.
The seminar's high-level speaker list includes the Honorable Kevin Lynch, counsel general of the United Kingdom; the Honorable Dale Eisler, consul general of Canada; partners David DiBari and George Kleinfeld from leading international law firm Clifford Chance LLP; Frank Schuchat, a partner with Denver-based Schuchat, Herzog & Brenman, LLC; and Richard Sawaya, director of USA*Engage at the National Foreign Trade Council.
"While the U.S. economy struggles with the consequences of financial crisis, the U.S. government's expanding regimes of economic sanctions and export controls bedevil U.S. exporters, complicate U.S. company supply chains and foreclose market opportunities to the benefit of foreign competitors," said Mr. Sawaya.
