DELVACCA's Career Development/ In-Transition Committee and SMR Legal Search recently presented a career development seminar to DELVACCA attorneys.
In May, Philadelphia legal recruiters Susan Rubinovitz, esq. and Stephanie Ristvey of SMR Legal Search sponsored a career seminar to over 30 DELVACCA members at The Pyramid Club entitled Navigating Your In-house Counsel Career in Your Thirties and Beyond:Making Smart Choices. They were joined by panelists Cole Silver, general counsel of Softgate Systems, and Kevin Stepanuk, associate general counsel of Exelon.
The seminar addressed ways to be useful to the CEO, tips on avoiding common mistakes made by new and experienced in-house counsel, the value of networking, loyalty, staying passionate about the practice oflaw, the pros and cons of being a specialist versus generalist, knowing when it's time to look for new opportunities, a brief refresher on interviewing and resumes and an overview of the current legal market. SMR also offered extended-seminar attendees a free resume review and interview skills training and hosted a cocktail reception after the seminar.
