DC Bar Plans Two-Part IP Series

The DC Bar Association this month has scheduled a two-part 2004 Intellectual Property Law Year in Review Series.

Part 1 - Patent Update will take place on Tuesday, December 7 from 6 to 8:15 p.m. at the DC Bar Conference Center, 1250 H Street, NW, Washington, DC.

This session will focus on patent law providing an overview that will be valuable not only to the patent practitioner, but to anyone who deals with intellectual property law issues. This program will explore recent developments in U.S. patent law during 2004, including court decisions, legislation and PTO regulations.

Some of the major court decisions to be addressed include Knorr-Bremse (eliminating the adverse inference in willfulness infringement circumstances), the en banc Phillips case (claim interpretation), In re Klopfenstein (announcing a new test for a "printed publication"), Insituform Technologies (meaning of "tangential" in rebutting Festo presumption), Honeywell (narrowing amendments), SmithKline Beecham (clinical testing as invalidating public use), and University of Rochester (written description).

Speakers at this session are Bradley Wright, Banner & Witcoff, and Kevin T. Duncan, Hunton & Williams.

Part 2 - Copyright, Trademark and Internet Update is scheduled for Tuesday, December 14, from 6 to 9:15 p.m., also at the DC Bar Conference Center.

This popular session gives attorneys the information they need to stay current on the year's important intellectual property law developments. During this session, the speakers will provide a review of the 2004 developments in copyright, trademark and the "law of the Internet." The emphasis will be on 2004 court decisions in these areas.

Speakers will include Brian Banner, Banner & Witcoff; Beckwith Burr, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, and Terence P. Ross, Gibson Dunn & Crutcher.
