Join the District of Columbia Bar on Tuesday, August 30, for a seminar titled Balancing Legal Ethics with the Realities of Law Practice. It will be held at the DC Bar Conference Center, 1101 K. Street, NW in Washington, DC, beginning at 1:30 p.m. and ending at 4:45 p.m.
From conflict of interest rules to the evolving use of technology, legal ethics requirements have the potential to be assets to attorneys, an opportunity for exploration, or a source of anxiety and confusion. This new and up-to-date ethics seminar will allow participants to hone their skills and examine developments in ethics laws with an emphasis on current problem areas and controversies. The course will focus on DC Rules of Professional Conduct, with a look at proposed changes to the ABA model rules, the experiences of other jurisdictions, and practice realities. The speaker, Jack Marshall of ProEthics, Ltd., will use a mixture of lecture and interactive hypothetical scenarios.
Among the topics are how to handle the innocent conflict of interest; allowing conflicts screening for later hires; updates on new technology-ethics clashes; and identifying the line between deceit and "spin."
