Moore & Van Allen PLLC (MVA) is pleased to announce that David M. Freda has joined the firm’s Charleston office as a member and will practice in the Commercial Real Estate group focusing on real estate equity finance. Freda joins MVA from Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP.
“We are excited to have David join our growing Commercial Real Estate team,” said MVA Managing Partner and Chair Thomas L. Mitchell. “His significant, growing client base and practice focus in the areas of real estate equity finance and corporate transactions makes him a tremendous addition to the Firm.”
Freda has over a decade of experience advising on and structuring intricate real estate equity finance and corporate transactions, in addition to managing the process and closing of commercial real estate acquisitions and financings in all asset classes. He represents regional and national developers, investors, and operators in the industrial, office, multifamily, and mixed-used sectors, guiding them through the various legal and business concerns that arise in a commercial real estate transaction, including acquisition, development, restructuring and exit. Complementing his sound understanding of the ever-evolving undercurrents at play in the real estate industry is his trusted experience handling all forms of corporate transactions, from business formation and corporate structuring to joint ventures and fund formation, recapitalizations and buyouts.
Freda guides clients through the nuances of acquiring and disposing high-value real estate assets and portfolios, with a focus on structuring these transactions to maximize investment intent and tax efficiencies. He has successfully negotiated and documented preferred and common equity investments, programmatic ventures, syndications, private placements, 1031 exchanges, sales, and more. Before launching his legal career, Freda owned and managed a consumer goods manufacturing business, and he brings this distinct business experience and perspective to transactions and client interactions.
“David is well-regarded for his deep industry knowledge and breadth of capabilities,” said Member H. Manning Unger, who co-leads the firm’s Charleston office. “I look forward to practicing alongside him as he continues to grow his client base and transactional repertoire at MVA.”
Freda earned his J.D., magna cum laude, and M.B.A., magna cum laude, from Georgia State University. He earned his B.S. from Boston College. He is admitted to practice in both South Carolina and Georgia.
