Corporate Counsel Institute Scheduled

The University of Texas School of Law has scheduled its annual Corporate Counsel Institute for Thursday and Friday, February 19 and 20, at the Hyatt Regency in Houston.

On Thursday the institute will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The program will be repeated in Dallas on Thursday and Friday, March 5 and 6.

Some of the topics that will be covered on Thursday are bankruptcy and protecting your company when your business partner goes bankrupt; drafting contracts: improving legal writing in a transactional practice; patent cases; E-discovery; and containing outside counsel costs. A box lunch and luncheon session about marketing yourself inside your company are included. Friday's topics include jurisdictional provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other examples of U.S. prosecution, general counsel at risk - a review of recent actions aimed at in-house counsel for stock option backdating and other legal and ethical lapses, an employment overview, indemnity provisions, and a general counsel panel discussion about managing and motivating inside and outside counsel.

Among the faculty presenters are Cullen M. Godfrey, The Texas A&M Health Science Center; Michelle L. Hartmann, Weil Gotshal & Manges; and John E. Lynch Jr., BP America Inc.
