D&I Highlights from 2022
The report explains key initiatives undertaken in 2022, including:
Commitment to Attracting and Developing Diverse Talent – In order to develop and support existing talent, Consilio invested resources in the Consilio Leadership Academy (CLA), a 12-month leadership development program for high-potential leaders. In 2022 67% of the CLA participants identified as women and/or racial/ethnic minorities. Consilio also worked to generate a diverse pipeline of new talent through the company’s Project Management Apprentice Program, Summer Internship Program, and partnerships with North Carolina Central University School of Law and other HBCUs. Consilio also launched a new Sales Associate Program, aimed at developing a diverse pipeline of early career sales professionals.
Improving Diverse Representation – In 2022, Consilio increased the overall representation of women and people of color in the workplace and improved the diversity of employees in Manager and Director roles. With respect to women, 46% of all new hires were female; a significant percentage of promotions at all levels went to women; and the company increased the representation of women in technology roles by 5%.
Expanding D&I Leadership – Last year, Consilio created a new D&I leadership role, D&I Program Manager, the first position at the company entirely dedicated to diversity and inclusion work. The company also established two new senior leadership roles on the Employee Experience team: VP, Talent Acquisition and VP, Talent and Culture, whose responsibilities include growing and developing an even more diverse workforce.
Inclusive Programming for Consilio’s Diverse Team – Consilio launched an initiative in 2022 to provide more structure and support for its growing network of Employee Affinity Groups. Employee membership in the EAGs grew substantially, and the groups hosted a wide variety of impactful programming aimed at bringing together diverse groups of talent with shared interests.
Building Supplier Diversity and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Programs – Consilio accelerated the development of its Supplier Diversity program in 2022, establishing the foundation for year-over-year growth in its spend with diverse suppliers. The company also added significant ESG elements into the scope of its D&I function. ESG accomplishments in 2022 include engaging an outside consultant to calculate Consilio’s greenhouse gas inventory and submitting to a third-party sustainability assessment.
Looking to the Year Ahead
The report also outlines key D&I focus areas for Consilio in 2023, including:
Continued Improvement in Diversity Metrics – Consilio will work to improve its representation of women and racial/ethnic minority employees in several key areas: Women in sales and technology roles; women in Senior Leadership levels; non-white employees in sales roles; and non-white employees in Director and Senior Leadership levels. The company will also continue its focus on decreasing the attrition rate of women in its workforce. To achieve these goals, Consilio will invest resources to build on its existing talent acquisition and development initiatives and identify opportunities for new programs.
Veteran and Military Spouse Hiring – Consilio will look to increase the percentage of employees who self-identify as a veteran or the spouse of a person on active military duty. As of now, 3% of employees identify as veterans, compared to 6% in the U.S. workforce, a statistic that Consilio will work to improve through partnerships with organizations whose missions are to help place veterans and military spouses in the workforce, including Hiring our Heroes, Military Spouse Jobs, and VetJobs.
Maturation of the ESG Program – Building on the foundation established in 2022, Consilio will further develop its emerging ESG Program. The company will work towards achieving the capability of quantifying its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and establishing science-based targets for reducing its carbon footprint.
Ensuring Accessibility for Users – Consilio will continue to provide enhanced accessibility features in its digital environments, ensuring all users can easily engage with the company’s platforms, regardless of any potential disability.
“Consilio’s 2022 investments in our D&I program enabled us to accelerate the growth and maturity of the program in a number of respects, and we’re already seeing measurable results,” said Maureen O’Neill, Senior Vice President, Strategic Client Experience and Diversity & Inclusion Officer. “We are confident that our sustained commitment over time will deliver transformative changes to our employee experience, and by extension, our clients’ experience, further cementing Consilio as the most inclusive company in the legal technology space.”
