The NY City Bar Association, the ALI and the ABA will co-sponsor a seminar titled Communicating Across the Gender Gap: What Lawyers Need to Know on Tuesday, December 9 from 1 to 4:15 p.m. at The House of the Association, 42 West 44th Street, NY City.
The presenters will be Steven Stark, former law lecturer at Harvard Law School and NPR commentator, and Sarah Wald, special assistant dean, University of North Carolina School of Law, former dean of students at Harvard Law School and a former assistant provost of Harvard University.
Whether we like it or not, how well we communicate is deeply affected by gender. A growing number of studies show that men and women have different styles of talking and listening. Gender makes a huge difference in how people hear and perceive you, which can have consequences for your legal practice, your reputation for professionalism, and even your career.
This seminar will teach attendees how to use their own natural style to their advantage, how the nature of the legal profession exaggerates gender differences, how the rules of a meeting affect who talks and how the seating arrangement at a table makes a difference in who participates and more.
