CO Institute Promises The Latest In Business Law

The State Bar of Colorado has scheduled its annual Colorado Business Law Institute for two days this fall.

It will be held Thursday and Friday, September 30 and October 1, at the Pinnacle Club - Grand Hyatt Denver, 555 17th Street in Denver.

On Thursday it will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., and on Friday it will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:55 p.m.

Program highlights include a Thursday morning session - Leadership and Legal Issues for In-house and Outside Counsel in the Current Financial Environment - presented by Richard N. Baer, executive vice president, general counsel and chief administrative officer, Qwest Communications International, Inc., and Advising Directors in a Changing Legal and Economic Environment. The luncheon address will be offered by Hon. Bernie Buescher, Colorado Secretary of State. Thursday afternoon offers participants two separate tracks.

On Friday, topics include How the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act Impacts Smaller Businesses, which covers changes affecting mortgage-backed securities and mortgages in general, revised definition of "accredited investor," changes to eligibility for Rule 506, enhanced SEC enforcement powers, and other changes affecting small businesses. In the afternoon, participants again will choose between two separate tracks, including Socially Responsible and Sustainable Businesses, Ethics for Outside Counsel, Ethics for In-House Counsel, and Public Companies and Disclosure; "Climate Change" and the SEC and Board Risk Management.
