Skanska, the global construction and development company, has appointed Brian Best as Senior Vice President -- General Counsel for Skanska USA Building, effective immediately. Best succeeds Clay Haden who was recently named president of the business unit.
As General Counsel, Best serves as the business unit’s primary internal legal advisor, overseeing the company’s Legal, Ethics & Compliance, and Insurance & Bonding functions. He will serve on the company’s Senior Leadership Team and report directly to business unit president Clay Haden.
For the past seven years, Best has served as Deputy General Counsel for the business unit, overseeing the legal department’s central services group and coordinating many of the activities of its regional corporate counsel. Prior to joining Skanska as Corporate Counsel in 2008, Best was Vice President, Regional Managing Attorney with Washington Group International Inc., and earlier, an Associate with a law firm in New Jersey. He began his career as a Project Engineer with an environmental engineering consulting firm.
“Brian is a highly skilled and experienced lawyer with a deep understanding of our business who has successfully managed some of the company’s most complex matters,” said Haden. “He is also a trusted and widely respected advisor, and I look forward to continuing to work with Brian in his new capacity.”
Best holds a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law, and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University.
