Boston Focus: Ethical Issues When Vetting Clients

On Monday, May 10 the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education has scheduled a program titled Who's the Client? Business & Litigation Ethics.

It will be presented at MCLE's Conference Center at 10 Winter Place in Boston from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m.

Practitioners know that the first step in taking a new engagement is determining who the client is and whether engagement with the client is appropriate from the standpoints of conflicts, sound intake procedures and risk analysis. The program will feature three experienced business litigators and ethics counsel who will discuss key issues that arise in vetting new clients. The panel will examine common questions such as is the client confined to the person or entity at issue? Does it include affiliates or related parties in the same corporate family? Attendees will learn how the terms of engagement will help manage and limit these ethical issues.

Panelists are Neil P. Motenko, chair, Ropes & Gray LLP and Robert M. Buchanan, Jr., Choate Hall & Stewart LLP.
