Better Appellate Writing ExplainedIn Colorado Seminar

The Colorado Bar Association has planned a morning seminar, Better Appellate Writing, Briefing, and Oral Argument, on Friday, May 6. It will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the CLECI Large Classroom, 1900 Grant Street in Denver.

Attendees will learn from Judge John Webb, who was appointed to the Colorado Court of Appeals in 2002, and came to the bench with 30 years of experience in private practice. They will evaluate the merits and risks of an appeal; keys to clearer and more effective writing; creating a brief that helps the court decide the case; and tips on the most persuasive oral argument. The session will include an interactive in-class writing exercise, and Judge Webb will offer examples of well-crafted and poorly crafted language and explain what is persuasive and what's not.
