Basic Employment Law Course Scheduled By University Of Texas

The University Of Texas School Of Law has scheduled a CLE seminar titled Essential Employment Law: A Practical Course in the Basics for three dates in Austin, Houston, and Dallas.

The seminar will be held on Friday, August 29 at the Radisson Hotel and Suites in Austin, on Thursday, September 4 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Houston, and on Friday, September 26 at the Cityplace Conference Center in Dallas.The seminar runs from 8:20 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on all three days.

Instructors Connie L. Cornell, a founding partner of Cornell Smith & Mierl, LLP and Michael W. Fox, a partner of Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. will discuss a variety of current labor law issues: Texas as an employment-at-will state; discrimination, harassment and retaliation and the "shifting burden of proof"; wage and hour compensation and how not to violate the Fair Labor Standards Act; the basics of managing employees and hiring, firing and discipline issues; investigating sensitive employment com- plaints; and annual employment reviews - the pros and cons of evaluation systems.
