Barnes & Thornburg has added corporate, litigation, intellectual property and unclaimed property attorneys and legal professionals to its Atlanta, Delaware, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, and Southeast Michigan offices.

An associate in the Indianapolis office, Laine Cadwallader’s practice focuses on drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on behalf of clients, as well as overseeing foreign prosecution of clients’ applications. She also counsels clients on patent prosecution strategy, patentability analysis, and portfolio management. Cadwallader earned her J.D. from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2022 and her B.S. in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 2017.

Scott Carter, an associate in the Southeast Michigan office, assists corporate clients with various transactional matters, including the intricate details of complex mergers and acquisitions. He has hands-on experience supporting both publicly traded and privately held businesses in the automotive, healthcare, manufacturing, and tech industries. Carter earned his J.D. from Wayne State University Law School in 2021 and his B.A. from Adrian College in 2018.

Senior patent technical specialist in the Minneapolis office, Kyle Dolan utilizes his technical background in astrophysics to assist attorneys with IP due diligence and analyses in patentability, infringement, validity, and damages, as well as in consulting on patent prosecution. He earned his M.S. in astrophysics from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in 2014 and his B.A. in physics from Lawrence University in 2006.

As senior director of unclaimed property in the Delaware office, John McGeever offers a well-rounded view on unclaimed property compliance coupled with extensive consulting and public and private accounting experience. He has a deep understanding of unclaimed property laws and regulations, and years of experience assisting state agencies and business clients with compliance issues. McGeever earned his B.S. in accounting from West Chester University of Pennsylvania.

An associate in the Atlanta office, Addison Smith represents companies in various types of commercial litigation matters. He focuses his practice on helping businesses navigate tort and contractual disputes and complex issues with their insurance carriers. Smith earned his J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2020, his M.B.A. from Troy University in 2013 and his B.S. from the University of Alabama in 2010.
